A Journey to the Most Northern Parts of India:
Kashmir and Ladakh

The first part of this very impressive journey  with Thorge Berger brought us to Srinagar, the heart of Kashmir, where we slept on beautiful traditional houseboats right on the serene Lake Dal.

After a first of two early morning outings to the floating vegetable market where we could watch and photograph the vibrant activities of the greengrocers we later  explored the town with its beautiful old wood architecture, the mosques and its bustling little quarters where we had more photo opportunities of merchants and workmen.

The following day we headed into the mountains to photograph the nomadic tribes which at that time of the year are on their way down from the mountains to their winter quarters. This first part of the journey was mainly dedicated to people photography. The Kashmiri people are friendly, patient and very cooperative models and Thorge is a real door opener when it comes to people photography. He has a very kind and respective attitude  and nobody can resist his warm and sincere smile.

When he teams up with his friend and Kashmiri guide Ashfaq who is not only an excellent tour agent, wonderful guide but also a very good photographer, you'll embark on a photo journey that's just unforgettable.

After Srinagar we headed on to Sonamarg. When you see the snow-capped mountains, crystal clear rivers and colorful meadows,  you perfectly understand why Kashmir is also called the "Indian Switzerland".

We did a very "productive" photo walk in Sonamarg and the day later another one on our way to the famous Shiva-temple in Naranag and enjoyed a wonderful picnic right on the banks of the river after we had filled our SD cards.

Our journey took us further on from Kashmir over the border to Ladakh on steep and winding mountain passes. With the increasing height the landscape is getting more and more barren. To be continued...
